Karoli Lwanga School of Nursing & Midwifery was established in 1971 as the Karoli Lwanga School of Nursing. Originally the School offered training for Enrolled Nurses who served in Karoli Lwanga Hospital, the mother institution. Progressively, the School opened its training services to other Hospitals and smaller non-governmental health units in the southwest region of Uganda. Following this expansion, the School also began recruiting and training private candidates. In 1999, a School of Midwifery offering Enrollment in Midwifery was established with the purpose of addressing the maternal and child health issues in the southwest region of the country, such as maternal and infant mortality rates.
